My 1000 k service stacked up as follows: Service and checks- I assume this was the labour - R495 Oil - R340 Sundries - R90 Washer plug - R5.46 Oil Filter - R108.64 Oil filter element - R132.10
Nett R1 168.20 Vat R163.55
Total - R1 331.75
The service was done at Honda Sandton on William Nicol Drive
Something looks a little strange to me otr, why is there an oil filter and an oil filter element on your invoice. Is your bike a DCT? I have not looked at all these aspects on my Integra but have always worked with oil filters which are a sealed unit and do not have a seperate element. I had the Integra serviced at Umhlanga and the book says the engine oil filter and DCT oil filter must be replaced at the service. The guy in the workshop said he had not replaced the DCT oil filter as Honda SA had no stock and they would let me know when it arrives. My bill was R924.86. So no DCT filter yet but this may be the extra charge refered to, if you don't have the DCT I would be asking them about that "element".
I do have the DCT. Would that make a difference, or should I check anyway? Based on some of the numbers I am seeing around servicing, it seems as though the prices are a bit higher here in Jozi. But I think that goes for just about everything.

DCT takes an extra filter and about 0.2 liter more oil....thats about it.

Good thinking, I'm wondering about this DCT filter and am starting to think the local guys slipped up on this one as the other Dealers all seem to have it in stock. Time to start talking to someone higher up the ladder. I have done some googling and it looks like that "element" is definately for the DCT filter so the cost seems ok, as usual everything cost more in the big city. Anyway I'll have to go all the way back to Umhlanga to have it sorted out which is an inconvenience. I live only about 7km from the Pinetown Dealer but will avoid going there ever again because of a bad experience I had there, I have lost all faith and trust in them.
problem is that if they didnt replace the dct filter then it contaminates everything as it swims in the same oil ... I would replace the oil and other oil filter as well again... (pretty much redoing first service)
I can see that. It does seem strange that the engine and DCT would share the same oil and yet have two seperate filters. I am going to have a chat with the guys about this and see what they say.
This forum is a great way to learn about our bikes as we go.
Thanks to everyone for your input and insight.
I am really enjoying my DCT and have adopted it as my first choice of transport. I'm starting to "gear-up"for the cold winter morning rides and have new gloves and an awesome balaclava that are already making a difference.
On a positive note, I think Honda also find themselves on a learning curve (as far as NC700's are concerned), and they will soon realize that they do not have any choice other than meeting the expectations out there.

I've also been thinking about this and feel that the system must be designed in such a way that the filters should trap any particles which are larger than the element design allows. I don't think it will allow a back flow to release those particles back into the oil. If that was the case the filter would most likely be unnecessary. Changing the filter is probably necessary as the buildup of trapped particles must slow down flow rate. Anyway I'm no engineer so I won't be making a big thing of this but will insist they get the element and change it asap. Last night I was wiping down the scoot and found two dents on the outside of the silencer. Looks like stone damage. Don't know how that happened and it was not there the night before. Don't you just hate it when these things happen. Like the wife says, if you want to avoid these things, park it and cover it with a blanket, if you never use it it will stay clean.
Now that's another thing that's a niggle, when the wife is right, in this case I concede. Dealer says DCT filter will be arriving Monday so I'll arrange for fitment next Saturday if all works out ok. Guess I now need to visit my local exhaust guy, he is pretty good and reasonable as well. Don't want too much noise just a bit more than standard.
