Glad to be on the forum as I have a lot of questions you might be able to assist with. Bought my NC700 a year ago. All services done to date - currently 22000km's. Never been on a trailer or grout road - no burouts or wheelies Front fork seal popped at 14000km together with the front brakes. Change and sprockets went on 15000km's. Honda investigated and said the pistons on the brake caliper is to short and therefore i will have to replace the pads @ 30-40 usage. Of all the stuff mentioned they said that only the front fork seal is mechanical and that is all they will replace under warrenteeeeeee. No dealership or head office had stock and after 3 weeks I paid cash and had it replaced thru a third . The brakes started acting out again today. Do anyone here have the same problem or did I just get the dudd??
Did you buy the bike new or second hand? There were a few "demos" floating around at the time from the testing for the journalists and I am sure you know what went on while being tested...
Chain and sprocket: If you maintained and lubed your chain I reckon 30 000km would probably be on the cards. At least. Even an abused chain should last longer than 15 000km on a bike with only 50hp.
Fork seal: Unlucky. It happens to the best of bikes, but luckily they're replacing it under warranty.
Brakes: Pistons too short? Sounds like bullsh :-Xt to me. These things are made by the million, and they are all the same. I say they owe you new callipers. There is obviously something wrong with yours. I fail to see how it's not a warranty fix.
I am sure that we all know that Honda SA holds every "prelaunch and journalist demos" and sells them to the dealerships when the demand is high. I know that my 2010 VFR1200 was one of them. Usually they come with about 2000km or so on the odo and the history of the first 1000km service is sketchy. However, not all of them are as bad but they certainly got their share of, well, use... one way to check if your bike is one such demo is to check the history according to the vin number on the fork assembly... the dealership is obligated to disclose the history and don't be afraid to ask...
I agree with Jagter with the poionts mentioned. Bikes can take a lot of abuse under normal use but it sounds more like the dealership didn't want to honour their sale...
I agree....you should demand new callipers or report them to the cpa........they hate the cpa as it costs them a fortune just by you laying a complaint. .......
Thx for all the input. It was brand new out of the box. Had the bike to a 3rd for an opinion on the brakes and they confirmed that the calipers pistons is to short. Planning to take it to Honda for the 24000km service in a week and try to get them to put it on paper. Nice bike with new brake pads - but it gets real ugly after 30-40% wear on the pads. Love track days and love my bike but don't trust it enough to go on another track day. Should Honda replace the brakes I will see you on the track - whoop whoop. If not - it will just be a commuter - and although I commute from PTA to JHB everyday I will start using the Gautrain just to be on the safe side (and cut cost on replacing brake pads). Regards and drive safe.
The chain/sprocket and brakes on NC would not last with normal track day demands, but I am not sure how hard you ride on the track though... I was a Group B rider at both Z-Kop & RSR when I still had my Blade but haven't taken my NanCy to the tracks yet to see how she runs... Nevertheless, I don't see that much abuse from track days due to the power/weight ratio...
Pistons too short so the brake pads need replacing at 30-40%? Are we sure we are talking about Honda bikes?? That is just unheard of and if so, be sure to have a massive recall soon...
By the way, how were the brakes "acting up" when you took it in for the repair for the first time? Maybe can help others to watch out for signs of the similar?

All the symptoms sound like an abused bike.
we really need to investigate a bit more.......this thing about the brakes does not sound right and if its the case is there anyone else who experienced the same problem.....It might lead to a recall or something
