For what it's worth - another photo of some "backyard technology" :
Before my BMC filter has been installed initially, I sprayed some chain wax at the inside of the upper filter housing, as well as the air inlet tunnel. The idea was to trap some dust before it reaches the air filter. Within a relatively short period, (4000 km) quite a lot of dust has been trapped inside the inlet tunnel:
In future chain wax will always be used at the air inlet tunnel only, the wax inside the upper filter housing seemed to be a waste of time and money.

Well popped open the air box last week, removed the K&N, and took a photo, no dust or anything to speak of. judging by the size of some of the stuff in your photo E, wonder if there wasn't an issue with the seal around the side? I know when I fitted the K&N and then again last week, found it a bit tricky to make sure that it was seated correctly.

Hi Murray, during installation I made a special effort to ensure that the filter housing was seated properly, but I guess there is always a chance that I screwed up somehow.
Hopefully we will get more feedback from owners who installed BMC filters...

I put the BMC filter in. That with removal of my Cat converter has mad a difference.
Hey Paul. Who did your Cat conversion, and what kind of difference have you experienced? Did you you the Cat conversion at the same time as the filter, or were they done separately to be able to clearly see the difference from each procedure?
On my NC700 I had a DNA filter fitted. It was a bit more pricey than the K&N, but apparently is also very good. I didn't notice much of an improvement on the performance or fuel consumption, but the bike did sound deeper. Nice! Will invest in a BMC when the time comes to replace. BTW, Honda West Rand cleaned the filter at the 1000km service this week on my NC750X. Just dusted it out
