Need some advice please. I have noticed small cracks on my front fork seals. Is there something I can wipe / clean them with to make them last longer? Would it be beneficial to get them replaced (and do fork oil oil). Bike is a 2013 with less than 43k km on the clock. Will be taking it to Honda for service but not sure if I would trust them doing a proper job on something they probably rarely do.
Hi Ryc, sounds just like your dust seals are cracking which is not too serious. From personal experience I can say that at that mileage your fork oil probably needs to be changed. My Second Nc700x is 2012 which I bought after 5 years with only 4000km on it. It just didn’t handle well and I changed the fork oil and it was a revelation, so o would suggest you change them for peace of mind and also ride and handling . They are simple forks and an easy if messy diy job. I used Motul 10w fork oil and chucked 500 ml into each leg. If you have a center stand there is no fuss and I use a 1m 50mm length of pvc pipe as a fork seal driver. Lots of videos on line.
I agree. The visible seals on the forks are the dust seals. Unless these are serious cracks, it shouldn't be an issue and won't cause leaks unless dust gets through and into the oils seals. Good idea to have it ch3lecked and replace the oil. Forks are easy to remove to do a thorough job of getting all the dirty oil and sludge out. Makes a huge difference to the feeling and handling of the bike again.
Where does one buy these dust seals only?Honda quoted me R486 for one dust cover / seal and a fork seal(in a so-called kit),thats almost R1k just for seals ,what a off!!.I can import them for cheaper.Honda says you will get these dust seals only from them and they dont sell them loose only as a kit.Any suggestions?

I got similar info from the local Yamaha dealer - Honda are too kak around here for me to waste my time - and "luckily" for me it turned out that I actually HAD to replace the seals as well, and not just the covers. So I suppose that's par for the course...
Just my 5cents worth, got quotation for my NC 700X FORK SEAL REPLACEMENT, total comes to about R 2800.00 for both incl everything. At that point May 2018, bought it second hand from guy in Klerksdorp with 32000km.I am now on my 28 motorcycle since 1983, all makes, on my second BMW r1200RT since 2010.
Bought the NC for my daughter as her first bike, since we have done 10 000 km, lovely machine. Back to subject, done it myself, 10w oil, same pvc pipes for tool with 2 automotive clamps. I used Motul 10w shock oil. Main difference, buy ARIETE SEALS AND DUST COVERS, they have double seals and do the job better, if you want, contact mark@trickbitz.co.za. You wont be disappointed.
