I have an issue with my NC700. Started about a week ago, when I release throttle to start to down gear, there is a very weird almost grinding noise that occurs, especially in 2nd gear. 6,5 and 4 are fine, but when I get to 3rd it starts and 2nd is bad. Another thing is that when I pull the clutch, it stops straight away.
Has this happened to anyone? I feel I need to take it in to have it looked at but the agents are so expensive with everything, has anyone here sent their bike to another workshop other than Honda? i am in the northern suburbs of Cape Town.
Hi Leon. There is a harsher sound from my engine (750X) when idling in neutral compared to when I have the clutch pulled in. After a check-up with Honda they explained that it was the noise from the clutch plates and nothing can be done about it. With that in mind, your problem seems to be clutch related, considering the noise goes away when you pull the clutch. Whether it be clutch or gears, you need to have it looked at a.s.a.p. You'll probably end up at Honda for parts anyway, so it may be worth investing with them for the check up. A new clutch is in the region of R6000. Please post once you find the cause/solution.
Hi Hannes, took the bike in and the chain was stretched out on one end causing the noise. I tightened the chain about two weeks ago but slack was too much. So in the end cost both sprockets and a chain. Thought chain would last longer that 24k.
Leon. I should have known it could be the chain. I had exactly the same problem early on. The fact that the sound disappeared when you pull the clutch threw me off a bit. I replaced the OEM chain with a DID one and have not had problems yet. Almost 20 000km. Glad you got it sorted.
