I am not sure about the flashing numbers, but maybe somebody else might have more info.
It would make sense rather not to stretch your luck too far regarding the reserve range - running an electric fuel pump without fuel should be avoided at all times.

The flashing numbers indicate that you are in reserve which is approximately 2.9 litres and it counts up from 0.0 L to 2.9 L.
Apart from what admin said about the fuel pump, if you go too far in to reserve you also start to pick up sediment off the bottom of the tank which can clog up the fuel lines, fuel pump, injectors, etc.
An owner once mentioned that he experienced problems after his tank ran dry. If I remember correctly, the NC had to go back to the agents to solve the problem.

Ok, so Ill change my mindset to having an 11L tank, not 14L. Though 2.9L should still run quite far in an imergency when no fuel stations nearby.
It is fine for emergencies. It is just not good to make it a regular practice. I have, on one or two ocassions, ridden until I only had about 700 ml left according to the gauge, when I couldn't find 95, or the garages in my area had no petrol.
In fact today, when I was nearing my workplace, the numbers started flashing. I prefer to fill up in the mornings, so I rode home on reserve. It was flashing 1.1 L when I got home.
Just a warning for those who rely on their flashing indication of fuel used: When you hit a bump or the petrol left in the tank moves too much and hits the sensor, the number can reset and start from scratch - leaving you thinking you have 2.9L left, when you actually can have something like 1L.

Just food for thought.
Im somewhat sceptical on this too. The numbers seem to count 0.1 of a litre every 60 seconds, and im not using 100ml every minute.
I have practically Good Experience about this! The petrol tank once reach Flashing .. it will give you maximum of 3.1 L indication and halted ulitmately
I practically chekked this myself in Malaysia.
About How long the bike runs on Reserve depends on your consumption Km/Liter .. u can multiply it with 3.1* Km/Ltr
But as someone above advised don't stretch as electronic pump etc. .. that is bul@%#$ being Engineer I say this. If it is really sucking sediments it might suck and stuck fuel lines anytime even tank is full
So that is only giving free suggestion for the fools .. don't take it However try to avoid making it such air at the end of the FUEL EMPTY as it will take few mins to start pumping fuel back to Injectors from Air to Fuel at start which needs your battery is perfect
However I will not contradict their suggestions as it might be their experience somehow
I have twice ridden my bike to empty on purpose to know exactly how for does the whole tank take me. the light starts flashing on 11 litters @ 375/376 range and the 3.10 litters reserve took me to 517 kilometers the first time and 519 kilometers the second time. on both occasions I made sure I have a two liters petrol in my compartment.
Basically I normally ride to about 12 or 13 liters before I feel up every time.
H have had my bike two years exactly this month and I'm sitting @ 42k plus.
I have changed my drive chain once @ +- 28k and both tires @ around 26k. I think I still have about 2000 to 2500 kilometers left still on my rear tire before my next change. I make sure to adjust, clean and lube my drive chain every 500 kilometers or so.
