While the price of Spark Plugs has been mentioned at another thread - my '700X has about 22 000kms on the clock, and since about three weeks ago I often have to hit the start button more than once to get the engine going...........which made me wonder - what is the lifespan of spark plugs on these bikes ?

If we go on what Honda says about the services, They replace the spark plugs every 24000 km , I would say that it should be at least 24000 km.
As far as car logic goes, I replace spark plugs every 20000 km on my Mitsubishi, on the Opel Corsa, GM replaces it every 30000 km intervals.
In my opinion the spark plugs should last at least 24000 km, unless the fuel used is dirty (some petrol stations are very suspect) and clogs up the gap of the spark plug, in which case a good cleaning and resetting the plug gap will suffice (On a car anyway).
Thanks, I also started getting a feeling that spark plugs indeed need to be changed at 24 000 kms - but to be honest, to my mind R650 for one spark plug is simply not acceptable...
Anyway, thanks for the link about the spark plug prices abroad, I think I do know what to do now ....

According to the Honda Dealer Service Dept, sparkplugs need to be inspected at 25 600kms(16000 miles) and replaced only at 51 200kms(32000 miles). Even then, if they are Iridium plugs they could even last longer. But I will definitely source them elsewhere as R650 each is ridiculous. A colleague bought some Iridiums for his car which are the same as the ones for his Honda VTX1100 Cruiser and he paid about R200 each!!! The car manufacturers say they should last 100 000kms!! Not sure about that, but I would be happy changing them at the 48000km service at that price.
My post never posted?? My 750 Auto's Manual says they must be replaced on 48 000km, but I will listen to the bike, cause she will tell me when the plug is due. You can feel it when it happens. Also if someone can tell me the number of the spark plug I will see what I can come up with. Seeing as the motor is practically a Honda Jazz, maybe we can have some luck at Midas or Auto zone?
according to the tech spec's for the 700X - this is the model of spark plug (IFR6G-11K), plug that into your search engine, and you will easily find corresponding version for various manufacturers
For what it's worth, I've been in contact with the Autozone Head office today... Long story short - they undertook to have a look at the numbers sold, (NC700 / 750's) and at this stage there is a possibility that the correct spark plugs might be available over the counter at Autozone in future.
From experience I know that it might take some time for things to materialize, so maybe we should just cross fingers at this stage.
Does anyone know whether the 700/ 750 plugs are exactly the same ? Please, this info will be very helpful.

I found out that metro police has purchased 150 NC units.
Was talking to one of the metro cop's that was riding a NC, he was in a group of 5 cop's that was riding NC's and were camping out at the engen garage around the corner from my house.
So if autozone supplies metro they should be able to make a buck or two and maybe that will bring the price down a bit for us
