By times, specially during long trips, like when I stopped at toll gates etc, I wanted to open the storage compartment.....but this obviously couldn't be done without switching the engine off. Fortunately I saw this clever idea elsewhere at the web, and fabricated this mod, which is very handy:
Two duplicate keys has been cut at a locksmith, at R28.00 each. The key blanks on both keys has been modified, and I used an ordinary 500ml. oil cap as knob on the one key. On the other modified key I used a knob from an old compressor regulator. I then poured epoxy into the caps, and held the keys upright in the correct position:
The modified keys blend nicely with the bike:
The two keys are shorter than the original keys, and can not be used to start the bike.
Very handy indeed...

Brilliant!!! Was thinking of doing something like this, but this is even better. Also, because of the HISS system, you need the transponder part of the key to start the bike, so this copy is only good for opening the lock for the cubby and fuel cap
Where can I find these shorter keys? I tried some time ago but was unsuccessful...

You can just take an original key to a locksmith and ask for a replica. Easy to make.[/quote]I did that but they they told me there is no shorter key with that configuration (for Honda NC 2014/15).
You dont cut a shorter key - you make an exact replica of the original and cut it shorter - or rather cut off the head to fit in your cap.You would have to measure it so that the cap is almost flush with the frunk when inserted. This key will not completely enter the ignition to start the motorcycle because the epoxied cap will prevent it from going in deep enough to start.I hope this help.
Yes, I understand that. The problem is that the locksmith I went to said that there is no shorter key to duplicate the original key from.
Shorter keys to make duplicates from the original keys are freely available at all locksmiths in South Africa. Maybe you should just try another locksmith in your country. If no other locksmith in your area is able to help, I will try to get a code from a local locksmith.

Why could a person not just cut the longer key to size? It fits in the cap/button filled with epoxy anyway?
If you referred to an original spare key, it means that once the spare key has been cut to size, the shorter key can not be used to activate the ignition switch again. If I remember correctly my ‘700 came with only one spare key and it would be way better to get a shorter one made by a locksmith.
The length of the standard keys are quite unusual and I think local locksmths might not be able to make replacement keys for our bike’s ignition switches.
