My Name is Donovan, but you can call me Cronos. I Hail from the West Rand and Roy pointed me towards you guys! Hay Roy!
Little bit about myself: I ride a Transalp 700XL, but my bike started giving problems with its Fuel injection, so I had to book her into Honda West rand. While she was in the shop, Honda was so kind to lend me a 700 to commute on and it so happened to be the NC700. I loved the bike, but did not like the idea of not having ABS. Helena then called and said she has a brand new NC750xd with ABS and Automatic Gearbox. This intrigued me a lot, so I fetch the bike on Wednesday last week.
I must say, I was blown away! So much so that by Friday, I started the ball rolling to trade in the Transalp.
If All goes well, I will receive my new 750 next week. I ordered the red one with a slip on to increase the sound of the bike. I am here to try and meet people that also love these bikes and to learn everything I can, be it pro's or cons of the NC.
Glad you have joined the elite club! I have found this forum to be very insightful and am glad I could recommend it to you. The guys are friendly and helpful when there are queries and questions.
And as for the Honda NC.....
I am loving mine (I only have the NC700X manual) and I am positive you will love yours too.
May you have many, many thousands of happy, safe and carefree motorcycling miles
! Helena is very good that way, got my NC700 from her last year, and love her service, she is brilliant... The guys on this forum is indeed very friendly and helpful, and we will include you in our next breakfast run Excellent choice for a bike! Enjoy and be safe!
enjoy it, and the dct is a sweet choice, for the commute, it makes it a real pleasure
Yeah, it absolutely does. I'm sitting here on a hot plate and almost cant wait anymore for my NC. Honda is waiting for their stock to be allocated and then we will proceed.
One little issue I have with the Automatic and the D drive is that it changes gears to rapidly. Sometimes you doing 40km/h in like 5th gear. It does respond quick if you open the throttle hard, dropping down to 2nd and then speeding up. Do you guys know if it is possible to have this set by Honda? It is a computer after all?
yeah, but on my 700 it learns, so if you are prone to riding with ha little more open throttle, it will hold each gear longer, which is tricky to teach it in traffic, but you can either use the S mode, or use the shift buttons to change when you want, but it is programmed to be economical as its default. But as i said, can be trained to match your style.
Ok, awesome! That is very good to know. So when gunning it a lot and you one day decide to slow down, you confuse the computer so to speak. I will keep that in mind and will train mine then according to my riding style.
For now I do that, use the Sport to get to the speed I want and then drop back to Drive and then cruise. The sport only change when you accelerate and not just because it has to.
he he, yeah pretty much, i tend to find that if i 'gun' it through traffic the first bit, if i am a bit late, and want to get ahead of the rush, that once i slow down again she holds gears longer.
That is actually probably a better plan, i think i mess mine around, keeping it in D and riding a bit harder and then using the buttons for changes, instead of just popping it into S for the first bit and then back to D.
i must say, had a burgman 650 before, which had 'manual' mode, but this honda dct box, and all the benefits that that brings to a bike, the S and D modes, and the manual, struggle to see myself ever going back to clutch again.
