Paul, thanks for the info on your de Cat. When Honda Sandton did it, what did they replace the Cat with? Or did they just gut it? Have you taken any photos of the work? If so, please will you post them for us to inspect? Thanks a million

Howzit guys. I need to find out something. I recently bought a straight through silencer. I've now had some people telling me that I'm going to burn valves and burn my pistons and all those things. Cat still in place. And all I need to know is, how true is this.
I am just guessing, but I think if the cat is still in place, and the pipe between the cylinder head and silencer is still standard, you should have no reason to worry about.
Just my 2c.
Kappa Touring Screen, SW Motech Crash Bars, Raptor Desert Fox Spotlights, SW Motech spotlight Mounting Brackets, SW Motech Center Stand, Givi E370 Top Box with Light Kit, Givi Back Rest for Top Box, Dzell Radiator Guard (aluminium), Dzell Side Stand Expansion Plate. Modified BMC Air Filter, Dimple magnetic oil Drain Plug, Seat Saint, Givi V35 Panniers, DIY chain Oiler, “Sit & Fly” type seat cover, Hand Guards, Highway foot Pegs, Adjustable wind deflector.
If your bike spits flames you might burn valves. If you still have the cat in place don't worry you will be fine.
Some people choose to play with the fuel mixtures and if it runs to rich and spits flames it can be bad. Also running to lean and getting backfires is also bad depending on how the backfire happens. My scooter backfires only once after I close the throttle from full open to close. It just burns up the unused fuel in the exhaust and gives a nice bang.
NC is electronically controlled if I was you I won't worry a bit. Unless you start seeing flames or backfire.
Sorry for reviving this old thread guys, I just wanted to see if everyone was still happy with the decat on the NC. I'd like to decat mine by myself, so if anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate that...

No issues with my NC after the de-CAT. Done about two years ago.

So I decided to do the decat myself yesterday, and with my limited abilities, I managed to get it done within about 3 hours. All seems to be working fine, the sound is slightly deeper and throttle response is definitely improved.
Has anyone noticed though, that fumes tend to smell like the bike is running a bit rich? Is this just because I'm used to the cat-con doing it's thing, or does the air/fuel mixture need to be adjusted?
