Replacement tires. In only 3000km these Dunlop D609's have worn out. I have looked on the UK forum, and there is a whole lot of moaning and letters to Honda Japan.......
So, if anyone has a suggestion as to replacement that last longer than 3000km.
Looking for a 70/30 80/20 road tyre. I would like to take the occasional detour on graded sand roads without sliding all over the place.
Doing a 5 day trip to Mpumalanga in August and would like to take the road less travelled. The rest of the time, commuting
I have the same issue with my Dunlops fitted to the NC750(6700km) as per the UK forums. I contacted Honda Cape Town and Honda SA, Cape Town asked to bring my bike in tomorrow for an inspection and hopefully a claim. All the UK owners got replacement tyres and I hope to do the same here but Honda SA emailed me back with a soppy answer about how the owner should take responsibility after 5000km's etc. The point is this tyre is to soft for the intended use of the NC750 and thus the abnormal wear. I spoke to Tracmac in Cape Town and they confirmed the same is happening to others, they have a service contract with a delivery service that use the NC's and they all switched to a Bridgestone tyre, harder in the middle and softer on the outside, ideal for commuting on tar.
I will keep you posted on my visit to Honda Cape Town. With what tyre did the NC700 come out, was it also the Dunlop Trailmax D609?
I have the feeling that the tyres are not the right tyres provided on those bikes and are not suitable for the local conditions and purpose. Honda SA should do the right thing and replace them, surely they can pass on the cost to the manufacturer. Maybe the consumer act needs to be emphasised here. Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (Act No. 68 of 2008)Chapter 2 : Fundamental Consumer Rights, Part H : 55. Right to fair value, good quality and safety, 56. Implied warranty of quality, if I remember correctly.

I agree. Thanks for the law part I will throw that in there! I am going tomorrow to Honda Cape Town, will keep you posted.
I have the same problem with Dunlop's fitted to my NC750X. After only 5000 KM's they are finished. My friend who bought the same bike on the same day has Pirelli tires and after the same mileage, they are still looking as good as new.
Initially Honda said that they were unaware of any problem, so I contacted Dunlop directly. They told me that it is a known issue and put me in contact with Honda Head Office.
It has taken a month, but the latest is that my dealer is just waiting on stock to arrive and Honda will be fitting new tires.
My tyres only lasted 3500km. I have been assured that once Honda receive stock I will be getting new tyres. The latest batch of NC's have Pirelli Scorpion's. It's hard to understand how Dunlop could be this pathetic. Let's be thankful that no one has been killed as a result of these tyres.
Honda Bryanston/Sandton. Dunlop SA have stated the tyres are on order........yada yada yada. They have agreed to replace my tyres. I will get the contact person at Dunlop and post it tomorrow. It's time we put pressure on Dunlop SA.
Received a call today. Honda SA have received the tyres. They will be sent to the branches. Hopefully I should be called by Friday to bring my bike in. Will keep all updated.
I got that call last Friday from Honda SA (Yvette) saying that the tyres would be at the dealer (Honda East Rand) by Monday or Tuesday. Then got a call from her yesterday saying that they would NOT be replacing the tyres!!!!
Well, I stripped my you know what and went to the dealer to show them the condition of the tyres and also called Yvette and let her know in no uncertain terms what I think of Honda SA. She promised feedback by today.
No feedback from her but the dealer called to say that they will have the tyres this week!!!!
Person I have dealt with at Dunlop is Keith Phelps. He has been very helpfull and put me in contact with Honda SA to resolve the problem Keith.Phelps@srigroup.co.za
and at Honda SA is Yvette Tshambo Yvette.Tshambo@honda-eu.com 011 847 9487
Also Keith Parry at Honda SA who is a technical advisor 011 847 9430
All of you concerned, please put pressure on these people to do what is right!!!!!
